Player Of The Year / Achievement Award Nominations
The Committee invite all league members to nominate a player for the following annual awards which will be handed out at Trophy Presentation / Finals Evening on Saturday 30 May 2015.
1.  Three Player Division Player Of The Season
2.  Four Player Division Player Of The Season
3.  Achievement Award (can be a player or team)

Please email swdsl@live.co.uk with your nominations and a brief reasoning as to your choice;

a nomination for the Player Of The Season will probably reflect a player who has a either a high or consistent win ratio in league matches during the season, and/or reached the quarter finals stage or beyond in the league tournaments which may include the one day tournaments.

a nomination for the Achievement Award is for an outstanding snooker achievement by a individual player or team during the season either in one frame or over a period of time, ie a player may win 10 straight frames in a row or may have knocked in his/her highest league break etc.

All entries received by the Committee will be considered on their individual merit prior to a final decision being made, and please remember that you cannot vote for yourself!

All entries must be received no later than Sunday 3 May 2015.

And Finally…

Awesome Walden Win 2015 BS Challenge title

The 9th Annual Bishop’s Stortford Challenge, sponsored by AJ Electrical was held at Old Harlow War Memorial Club on Sunday 29 March 2015.

The format as previous seasons consists of both the Saffron Walden & District Snooker League and the Bishop’s Stortford & District Snooker League each entering a team consisting of six players, three league handicapped between -10 and -1, and three between scratch and +10.  Saffron Walden was represented by Andrew Green, John Manley, Aaron Gibson, Peter Saville (Captain), Mark Patmore and Phil Chapman.  In each round, the minus players played two frames against each other and the plus players did the same.  Following the three rounds, a fourth round took place which mixed up the order with the minus players taking on the plus players.

Walden raced into an early lead winning the first two rounds 11-1 and 9-3 respectively, to lead 20-4 overall.  With the damage done, Walden secured the title in round three with a 7-5 round win to take a 27-9 overall lead.  Round four was a formality but Walden continued their excellent form on the day to win it 9-3 and to finish with an aggregate score of 36-12 for the tournament.

Harrow Inter-League Tournament – Saffron Walden Bow Out In Semi-Finals

Following a great run, our SWDSL team bowed out of the tournament in their Semi Final match against Harrow ‘A’ 7-5.

With the match at 7-3 and only 2 frames remaining, having had a 3 hour drive to attend the match, Dunmow Club’s Stuart Turner was hoping to restore some pride for the league by playing against Harrow’s last player, none other than the 1977 UK Snooker Champion Patsy Fagan.  Unfortunately for Stuart, the tables were quickly cleared and the match balls were put away…seems Patsy was running scared!

Unstoppable Norwich Notch Up A Hat-Trick Of Saffron Walden Challenge Titles

bushwood

The 2015 Saffron Walden Challenge Snooker Tournament, once again kindly sponsored by Bushwood Accountants took place at the Cambridge Snooker & Pool Centre, Cambridge on Sunday 22 February 2015.

With Braintree Snooker League unfortunately having to pull out of the tournament on the Saturday evening due to player illnesses, defending champions Norwich took on teams from the surrounding snooker leagues of Saffron Walden, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Chelmsford, Ipswich and South Beds in this annual round robin tournament where teams of 3 players play 2 frames back-to-back against their opposite number from each team.

Going into the final round of the tournament, South Beds, Saffron Walden and Cambridge were all tied on 19 points,  with defending champions Norwich on 18, Ipswich on 14, Milton Keynes on 10 and Chelmsford on 9 points.  With three teams potentially all in contention for the title [Cambridge had a bye round] there was a tense atmosphere as the final round commenced, but defending tournament holders Norwich Snooker League again proved worthy winners to retain the Saffron Walden Challenge title with 24 points and notch up a hat-trick of titles since first entering the tournament in 2013.  South Beds Snooker League finished as runners up with 22 points, ahead of hosts Saffron Walden Snooker League who finished in third place with 21 points.
