The Committee of the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden & District Snooker League are pleased to announce that it was agreed at the AGM that all future finals of the John Webb Plate will be held at Newport Club in honor of John who was to many ‘Mr Newport Club’. Unlike other finals where a player can request a neutral venue if a home player reaches the final, should a Newport Club player reach the final, then this venue will remain. We are sure that all players past and present will see this as an appropriate and fitting tribute.

NOTICE : Extraordinary General Meeting – Tuesday 26 July 2016 [Vote online here if you cannot attend]
The Committee of the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden & District Snooker League hereby give notice that an Extraordinary General Meeting will be held at the Bishop’s Stortford Royal British Legion on Tuesday 26 July 2016 at 7.45pm. All registered league members are invited to attend, however as the matter to be discussed concerns the Three Player Division, only those players registered to play in the Three Player Division shall be entitled to vote on the proposals below.
Prior to the date of the AGM, the Committee had received 15 team entries for the Three Player Division. Post AGM, we received a late entry from a team that hadn’t been able to confirm their entry in time. This raises several matters to be discussed at the EGM and to be voted upon as detailed below;
- Do the league members wish to accept the late team entry into the Three Player Division for the 2016/17 League Season?
Note: Team entries were requested to be submitted by the date of the AGM.
Accepting this team entry means that 16 teams will be registered in total.
If 16 teams are then registered for the Three Player Division, do the league members wish to have; - 1 division of 16 teams which will result in a longer league season?
or - 2 divisions of 8 teams, with promotion and relegation between the divisions?
Teams will play each other twice home and twice away like the Four Player Division.
Given the importance of the above for the Three Player Division, we hope that as many registered players (or at least a representative from every team) will make the effort to come along to this EGM so that a full and constructive discussion can take place, and a democratic vote on the future structure of the Three Player Division be taken.
If you are not able to attend but still wish to vote on the above, please click here to vote online.
Separate to the above, the Committee would like to withdraw a rule proposal put forward and agreed at the AGM;
Amendment to Rule 28 – Proposed by the Committee ADD ‘which shouldn’t be the same day of the week and only one date should be a weekend’ to the existing rule – ‘It is the responsibility of the home player to advise the away player of three dates when the home table is available to play the match…..’
Should you have any queries on the above prior to the EGM then please do not hesitate to contact the League Secretary.

Saffron Walden Retain Bishop’s Stortford Challenge Title
The annual Bishop’s Stortford Challenge took place at the Old Harlow War Memorial Institute Club on Sunday 10 April 2016. The event contested between the Bishop’s Stortford & District Snooker League and the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden and District Snooker league, each represented by six league players. Each teams comprised of three players handicapped between -10 and -1 and three players between scratch and +10.
After last year’s one sided event, this year’s was competitive throughout. After the first two rounds of play, little separated the sides with only a few frames between the teams. Going into the final crucial round of matches, Saffron Walden held a four frame advantage (20-16). The minus handicapped players would now play a plus player on the opposing team, everything was up for grabs. After a great day of snooker enjoyed by all, the improving Saffron Walden team played a solid final round winning 8 of the 12 frames to win the tournament by 28 frames to 20.

2016 BS Challenge Winners – Saffron Walden Left to right: Simon Chapman, Phil Chapman, Aaron Gibson, Bob Burling, John Manley and David Tedman.
Saffron Walden team & frames won:
Bob Burling 4/8
John Manley 5/8
Aaron Gibson 4/8
David Tedman 5/8
Simon Chapman 5/8
Phil Chapman (Capt) 5/8
The Committee of the SWDSL would like to thank the Old Harlow War Memorial Institute Club for once again providing the venue for this event, the players who represented the Saffron Walden league, and finally the Bishop’s Stortford & District Snooker League who played their part in a good competitive match and for running the event as the home team this year.
