‘Pot-tastic Pegram’ Wins The 2019 Memorial Cup!

The annual Saffron Walden and District Snooker League Memorial Cup tournament, took place on Sunday 17th November 2019.

In a change to the previous round robin format, the event this year was sponsored and held at JP’s Snooker & Pool Club on a knockout tournament basis with each round being best-of-three frames with prize money going to the winner, runner up and losing semi-finalists.  As usual, matches were played off of current league handicaps.

After a Preliminary Round and Last 16, the Quarter Final Round started to show which players were in good form and Colin Pegram, Simon Giblin, Keith Youell and Leon Mozejko all emerged through to the Semi-Finals with only 1 frame being conceded between them.

In a similar vein to the Quarter Finals, the two eventual finalists Leon and Colin both powered through their Semi Final matches with ease to set up a mouth watering clash in the final.

In a very quick final, Colin showed his class and experience by beating defending Champion Leon 2-0 who was appearing in his third final in three years, quite an achievement in itself.  Along with the title, Colin bagged the £100 winners prize money, with Leon picking up £50 for runner up.  Keith and Simon both took a consolation prize of £25 each.  The Memorial Cup will be formally presented to Colin at our Finals / Trophy Evening.

The updated drawsheet for the Last 32 Round of the Handicap Singles is now available to view on the league website.  The Last 32 Round of the Handicap Doubles is also on the website.

Please note that all matches are to be arranged by 14 November 2019 and played by 28 November 2019.  

Opponent contact numbers can be found on the Player Contacts List in the Tournaments menu.

Please could the winner of each match either report the result to the Tournament Secretary Stuart Turner on 07879 463089 or post on the SWDSL Results/Info WhatsApp Group within 24 hours to enable the tournament drawsheets to be updated for the next round.  In a change to previous seasons, following the completion of each round, the next round will be randomly drawn.

Should you encounter any issues in trying to contact your opponent then please contact Stuart Turner.  Please remember that it is the responsibility of both players to contact each other.

The Tournament Secretary Stuart Turner is pleased to announce a new and exciting format for the annual Memorial Cup Tournament.  The event this year will be held at JP’s Snooker & Pool Club on Sunday 17 November 2019 on a knockout tournament basis with each round being best-of-three frames with prize money going to the winner, runner up and losing semi-finalists.  As usual, matches will be played off of league handicaps.

We are also delighted to confirm our new tournament sponsor and host, JP’s Snooker & Pool Club.

The Entry Fee will be the same as previous years, £10.00 and includes your table light all day.

The Prize Fund will be as follows;
Winner: £100
Runner Up: £50
Losing Semi-Finalists: £25

The winner will get their name engraved on the prestigious perpetual Memorial Cup trophy.  Due to the prize fund being increased, no keepsake trophies will be handed out to the winner and runner up.

Entry will be limited to 24 players on a first come, first paid in advance basis.  Entries open on Saturday 19 October 2019 at 10am and will close on midnight on Saturday 9 November 2019.  No entries will be accepted before or after the above dates and any invalid entry monies received will be refunded.  Should we receive more than 24 entrants, we will add the names to the reserve list and contact players in order prior to the day should anyone who has paid drop out.  If your entry is surplus to the 24 confirmed entrants following the draw being undertaken your £10 will be refunded.  In all other circumstances entry fees are non-refundable.

The League Cup Drawsheet for the Last 32 Round is online and all matches are to be played during w/c 9 December 2019.  All matches are to be played on the home team’s usual home league night and must be played during the scheduled league cup week or the team cancelling will forfeit the match.  The Last 16 Round will be played w/c 16 December 2019.  The drawsheet will be updated after the Last 32 Round.

Please could all home Captains remember to post the match result card on the SWDSL WhatsApp Group.

To help with the busy run up to the Christmas break, for those league teams that are already through to the last 16 round of the league cup and know their opponent team, by agreement of both Captains your match can be played the week before during the last 32 round as this is a free week for you.  Please let Stuart Turner know if you do arrange to play your match early, thanks.

The website has been updated to include a list of players that are currently registered for each team together with contact numbers for each Captain and Vice Captain.  The list can be found in the drop down menu of the 2019/20 League Season.  It is password protected, should you require the current password please ask a member of the Committee or email swdsl@live.co.uk.

The contact list for those players that have entered the various tournaments is detailed in the Tournaments drop down menu.

Should you find an anomalies with the player registrations or contact numbers detailed then again please let us know via email.

Captains – Entries are now open for all tournaments for the new season, the Tournament Entry Form can be found below.  Please submit one form per league team.

Tournament Entry Fees – Handicap Singles / Scratch Singles / Scratch Plus Singles : £2.50 per player / Handicap Doubles : £5.00 per pair.  These fees will be added to your team’s league fees invoice.

Please include a contact number for all players being entered and also ensure that your players have read the Tournament Rules and can make all the dates set in the Season Calendar for the various semi-finals and finals.

Deadline for receipt of entries is Wednesday 25 September 2019 and the draws will take place at the Committee Meeting on Thursday 26 September 2019.

2021/22 League Season – League Officers and Committee Members

Further to the AGM held on Tuesday 6 July 2021, the Committee of the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden & District Snooker League are pleased to confirm that Simon Chapman was re-elected to the position of League Secretary and Peter Saville was re-elected to the position of Treasurer.  Phil Chapman and Stephen Burford were also re-elected as Committee Members.

Therefore, for the 2021-22 League Season, the Committee of the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden and District Snooker League consists of the following Officers and Committee Members;

The Committee of the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden & District Snooker League hereby remind the membership that the Annual General Meeting will be held at the Takeley Sports & Social Club on Tuesday 9 July 2019 and will be starting at 8.00pm sharp.  The club will be open from 7.30pm.  All registered league members are invited to attend, and all teams that intend to compete next season should send along at least one representative.

All Team Captains, it’s that time of year again!

Ahead of the AGM on Tuesday 9 July 2019, the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden & District Snooker League requires your 2019/20 Team & Player Registration Form to be submitted to us no later than Sunday 7 July 2019.  The online registration form can be completed in a few minutes via the league website or the link below and automatically submits your entry to us.  In order to complete it you will need to have a mobile number and email address for each of the players that you wish to register.  Registered players will also prior to the start of the new season be added to our WhatsApp Group which many members find a useful way to keep up to date with league results and news.

NOTICE : Annual General Meeting – Tuesday 9 July 2019

The Committee of the DMC Leisure Saffron Walden & District Snooker League hereby give notice that the Annual General Meeting will be held at the Takeley Sports & Social Club on Tuesday 9 July 2019 at 7.45pm.  All registered league members are invited to attend, and all teams that intend to compete next season should send along at least one representative.  It is a compulsory requirement that a representative of any NEW teams and clubs attend so their application to join the league can be approved by the membership.

Should any member wish to submit an item for the Agenda or propose either an amendment to an existing league rule or propose a new league rule, these must be received by the League Secretary Simon Chapman no later than 28 days prior to the AGM which is Tuesday 11 June 2019.
